Loper, Lu Named B1G Gymnast and Specialist of the Week

Ona Loper and Ivy Lu earned Big Ten weekly honors after their outstanding performances at Ohio State this past weekend. The two gymnasts helped the Gophers defeat Ohio State 197.400-195.550. This is the first time the Gophers have hit the 197-mark this season and was the fourth-highest team score in program history.
Both Loper and Lu played integral roles in the Gophers putting up the second-highest team bars score (49.500) and third-highest team beam score (49.600) in program history. Loper and Lu were both in the beam lineup when Minnesota posted a beam score of 49.700, a new program record, earlier this season at Rutgers.
Loper's first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award comes after she won her second all-around title with a new career-high 39.550. The All-Big Ten first teamer has won three straight vault and floor titles. She finished first on vault at OSU with a 9.875 and tied for first on floor with a 9.900. The junior also tied for second on beam (9.925) and seventh on bars (9.850)
Loper is now tied for ninth in the nation on beam and in the all-around.
Lu earns her eighth Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week award after earning podium finishes on both of her events this past weekend. She finished second on bars with a season-high 9.950, while tying for second on beam with a 9.925.
The Maroon and Gold host Iowa this Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6:00 p.m. CT at Maturi Pavilion.
