MINNEAPOLIS -- From the coaching staff to the support staff, the Gopher women's hockey team has a knowledgeable, passionate group of people dedicated to supporting its student-athletes both on and off the ice. Get to know the people behind the program who support the Gophers in their athletic and academic endeavors, this week featuring athletic trainer Erin Moore.

Gopher Sports: When did you start working at University of Minnesota?

Erin Moore: August 2011

GS: How many years have you worked with Gopher Women's Hockey?

EM: Three years -- I started with GWH in June 2017.

GS: What's your alma mater and what did you study in college?

EM: Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training at Purdue University (2011), Master's of Education in Kinesiology at University of Minnesota (2013)

GS: What does your job entail?

EM: I do all things medical-related for the team. That includes everything from the prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses, as well as first aid and emergency care. I have the privilege to work with a fantastic group of team physicians to try to keep the team as healthy as possible.

GS: How did you get into the medical field?

EM: When I was growing up, I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon and started out college doing athletic training and pre-med. I dropped the pre-med route my sophomore year and never looked back.

GS: How did you get into your current position at the University of Minnesota?

EM: I started out as a grad assistant athletic trainer with swimming and diving. After getting my master's, I got a full-time staff position working with men's gymnastics and swimming and diving. When the women's hockey position came open in 2017, I moved into that role.

GS: What is your favorite part about your job?

EM: I get to talk with all the players and staff on a daily basis, and I really couldn't ask to work with a better group of people. You get to know everyone on such a deeper level and learn all about their lives. The players always make the training room a fun place to work with lots of laughs and jokes.

GS: What challenges do you face in your job?

EM: I think any athletic trainer will tell you that staying caught up on documentation is a challenge. I have to document any treatment, taping, rehab exercises, etc that every player does every day.

GS: What is your proudest moment in your professional career?

EM: Watching someone come back from a significant surgery. The first time they get back into competition is always a special moment for me, knowing how much time, effort, and hard work they've put in to get themselves back to that moment.

GS: Did you ever play hockey? What's your hockey/athletic background?

EM: Nope – never have even tried ice skating! I was never an athletic person growing up, but always have enjoyed watching sports. To this day, I'm still super uncoordinated with team sports.

GS: What is your favorite memory in your time working with Gopher women's hockey?

EM: Winning the WCHA conference title in the 2018-19 season, where everything lined up perfectly to allow us to win on the last day of the regular season. I vividly remember everyone together celebrating when we found out we had captured the title.

GS: If you could trade jobs with anyone in Gopher Athletics for a day, who would it be and why?

EM: PJ Fleck. Who else gets their own catch phrases? #rowtheboatskiumahgogophers

GS: What is your favorite sport or team (pro or college) to watch?

EM: Chicago Blackhawks though I go to more Wild games now living here.

GS: What are your hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?

EM: Running and lifting for exercise, and I watch the Food Network more than anything else.

GS: Name something that people would be surprised to learn about you/something not many people know about you.

EM: I went to Disney World pretty much every year for our family vacation growing up, and it's still one of my favorite vacation places today.

GS: Fill in the blank: If I wasn't working in athletic medicine, I would ________________.

EM: If I wasn't working in athletic medicine, I would own my own bakery (or work at a bakery in Disney World).
