Six Golden Gopher Programs Recognized for Academic Standards

5/12/2020 2:42:00 PM | Athletics

The NCAA announced today that six different Gopher programs earned Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards this year. These annual awards recognize collegiate programs that score among the top 10 percent of all programs in each sport based on the most recent multi-year APR numbers.

The six teams honored were baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis and women's golf. It marks the fifth-straight for men's cross country and seventh-straight honor for women's golf. This year's report also gives women's tennis its eighth-straight honor and ninth-straight for baseball. Men's tennis continues to shine, marking 10-consecutive seasons.

The NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate every spring. This announcement highlights teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 19. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
