Leadership Council Members Earn Leadership U Certificate
5/4/2020 9:14:00 AM | Leadership U
Last June, a group of 24 student-athletes from across all sports went on a leadership retreat to the Big Ten Conference office in Chicago. As these individuals were actively engaged in leadership development training, they came back to campus as a united group and served on the leadership council.
The Gopher Athletics leadership council meets monthly and is a group of student-athletes who are dedicated to practicing and improving their leadership skills. Being a member of council provides the opportunity to get to know other Gopher student-athletes and troubleshoot leadership challenges with their peers in real time. The goal of the leadership council is to help student-athletes gain awareness surrounding the challenges of leadership. The Leadership U staff helps this group build community across teams and be better prepared to step into leadership roles.
Throughout the 2019-2020 academic year, several leadership council members have been working toward earning the leadership certificate. In order to earn the certificate student-athletes must meet the following requirements:
- Attend a Leadership Retreat with fellow student-athletes
- Complete and debrief behavioral and emotional intelligence assessments
- Attend and reflect on Leadership U Speaker Series events with established corporate, educational and sport leaders
- Actively engage with the Leadership U staff and fellow student-athletes
The Leadership U staff is pleased to announce the following 11 student-athletes have satisfactorily completed the requirements and serve as the inaugural recipients of University of Minnesota's Leadership U Certificate Program:
Golden Gopher Athletics is incredibly proud of this group's leadership efforts demonstrated in and out of their sport. Congratulations to the 2020 Leadership U Certificate Program recipients.
