Gophers Launch Campaign to Help "Super Seniors"

On March 12, Gopher Athletics, in conjunction with our Big Ten peers, made the difficult decision to cancel all athletic competitions and organized team activities for the remainder of the academic year. This has had a significant impact on our student-athletes with classes being offered exclusively online, limited access to conditioning and nutritional facilities and the sudden absence of practice and competition with teammates.
COVID-19 has transformed many of our lives, seemingly overnight. For Minnesota's senior student-athletes competing in spring sports, it was an abrupt end to their seasons and to their college careers. They all came to the University of Minnesota with a similar dream - to compete for championships while earning a degree from one of the most celebrated universities in the country.
Recent NCAA legislation has granted additional eligibility to senior spring sport student-athletes who have been impacted. Despite revenue shortfalls within the department, we will continue to provide Gopher student-athletes with the tools necessary to succeed including academic resources, nutrition, medical support, travel and equipment. The Golden Gopher Fund has launched a new campaign to help support these "Super Seniors" and provide them with the resources to continue their dreams of competing and attending school at the University of Minnesota.
Individuals who are looking to support can either visit the website above or call the Golden Gopher Fund directly to make a contribution at 612-626-4653.
