Gophers Receive AVCA Team Academic Award

The University of Minnesota garnered another academic award from the 2019-20 season, this time from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Given out annually by the organization across all volleyball, 1,313 teams were honored. Minnesota was one of 46 Division I teams to garner the 2020 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. The Gophers were also one of nine Big Ten teams to receive the award. All four teams from last year's 2019 Final Four earned the team academic award.
In order for a team to earn the 2020 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, the entire team must achieve a minimum TEAM cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), a 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the 2019-20 academic year. Minnesota earned a 3.49 team GPA during the 2019-20 season, including a 3.66 this past spring.
Minnesota had five individuals this past season receive Academic All-Big Ten honors, while CC McGraw and Bayley McMenimen were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, this is Minnesota's first-ever AVCA Academic Team Award. Minnesota, who finished the 2019 season at the Final Four, established a 27-6 overall record and a 17-3 league mark.
