Gophers are 15-4 with Morgan as the starter

University of Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan and head coach P.J. Fleck were named the No. 4 QB-Coach combo in the nation by ESPN's David Hale

Minnesota is 15-4 with Morgan as the starting quarterback and last season saw the Gophers reach unprecedented heights. In 2019, the Gophers won 11 games for the first time since 1904. Minnesota also won seven Big Ten games for the first time in school history, beat two top-10 teams, won a Jan. 1 bowl game and ended the season ranked No. 10.

Minnesota won four Big Ten games by at least 20 points for the first time since 1934 and beat No. 5 Penn State at home and No. 9 Auburn in the Outback Bowl. That was the first time that Minnesota beat two top 10 teams in the same season since 1956. It was also the first time that Minnesota won a Jan. 1 bowl game since 1962.

The Penn State win was Minnesota's first win against a top-five team since it beat No. 2 Penn State on the road in 1999. It was Minnesota's first home win against a top-five team since it beat No. 1 Michigan 16-0 in 1977. The Outback Bowl victory against Auburn was Minnesota's best ranked nonconference win in school history.

Fleck was voted Big Ten Coach of the Year, while Morgan was named All-Big Ten Second Team. Morgan also set school single-season records for passing yards (3,253), touchdown passes (30), completion percentage (66.0%), passing yards per game (250.2), touchdown-interception ratio (4.28) and pass efficiency rating (178.7).

This year, the Gophers return nine starters on offense from last season that totaled 5,616 yards (third most in school history), 3,293 passing yards (school record), 294 first downs (second most in school history), 443 points (second most in school history) and a scoring average of 34.1 points per game (three most in school history).
