1/12/2021 9:05:00 AM | Leadership U
Leadership U hosted their final Speaker Series event of 2020 on December 15, featuring one of University of Minnesota's own - Dr. Nicole LaVoi, Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sports. Over ninety Gopher Athletics staff attended the event - some former students of Dr. LaVoi and familiar with her outstanding work with the Tucker Center.
Dr. LaVoi's presentation on strategies for self-care, ambiguous loss, and resilience was very timely as we approached 2021. During the event, the concept of comparative grief was explained where she quoted, "Embrace the fact you are grieving. Do not compare, just acknowledge." This led Dr. LaVoi in sharing some strategies for how to recharge and recover from loss. "If an inadequate amount of time is taken to recover, there can be the potential for burnout to occur. Recovery allows people to remain engaged in the work they are doing."
Leadership U was honored to have Dr. Nicole LaVoi share her research studies and findings with Golden Gopher Athletics. Several great tips and strategies were given as we head into this new year. You can listen and read more about Dr. LaVoi's work HERE.
