Taylor Heise and Abbey Murphy have been named WCHA Players of the Week.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Junior Taylor Heise has been named WCHA Forward of the Week and Abbey Murphy has been selected as WCHA Rookie of the Week following the No. 1 University of Minnesota women's hockey team's three-game sweep over St. Cloud State last week.
Heise earned her fifth WCHA weekly award of her career after leading the WCHA with four goals, five points, 1.67 points per game, two game-winning goals, one hat trick, a +6 rating, and .571 goals/shots on goal in Minnesota's three-game sweep over St. Cloud State last week. The Lake City, Minn., native had two points, scoring the game-winner and adding an assist, in Minnesota's 4-1 game two win at Ridder Arena and then scored her first collegiate hat trick in Minnesota's game three 4-0 win on the road at St. Cloud State.
Murphy picked up her first WCHA weekly award after tying for the WCHA lead among all players with five points, 1.67 points per game, and a +6 rating in Minnesota's three-game sweep over St. Cloud State. Among WCHA rookies, Murphy led the way with five points, two goals, three assists, 0.67 goals per game, 1.00 assists per game, 1.67 points per game, a +6 rating, eight shots on goal, and 2.67 shots on goal per game. Murphy, a native of Evergreen Park, Ill., recorded her first career two-goal game in Minnesota's 4-1 win in game two against the Huskies before recording a career-high three assists in the Gophers' 4-0 game three win on the road in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Gophers are back on the road this week, traveling to Madison, Wis., for the Border Battle. Top-ranked Minnesota faces No. 2 Wisconsin at 2:07 p.m. CT Friday and Saturday at LaBahn Arena.
