Former Gopher great just finished his sixth NFL season, second with Arizona
Maxx Williams was one of the best tight ends to ever wear the Maroon and Gold. The Waconia, Minn., native spent three years at Minnesota before forgoing his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
He recently completed his sixth NFL season and second with the Arizona Cardinals. This year, Williams caught eight passes for 102 yards and one touchdown in nine games with the Cardinals.
Williams was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by Baltimore and spent his first four NFL seasons with the Ravens before signing with Arizona prior to the 2019 season. For his career, he has played in 67 games and has made 86 catches for 801 yards and five touchdowns.
Williams played in 25 games for the Gophers and finished his collegiate career with 61 receptions for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns.
He had a breakout season in 2014 when he led the Gophers in receptions (36), receiving yards (569) and touchdowns (8). His 569 receiving yards and eight touchdowns set school single-season records for a Minnesota tight end. Williams was named First Team All-American by Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America. He also became the third sophomore ever to be named a Mackey Award Finalist and was named a First Team Academic All-American.
