Minnesota administrator started as an ice technician out of college and leaves the U after working on more than $500 million in capital projects

It's the end of an era.

Scott Ellison, who is Minnesota's Senior Associate AD for Facilities & Capital Projects, is retiring from Gopher Athletics. Ellison began his career at Minnesota in 1989 and his last day is Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.

During his 32-year career as a Gopher, Ellison was involved in more than $500 million in capital projects and oversaw an annual operating budget of more than $10 million.

Ellison worked in a wide range of facilities and roles, including everything from "ice technician" right out of college to his involvement with the development, building, and management of TCF Bank Stadium and Athletes Village.

"Few individuals have made an impact on the University of Minnesota like Scott Ellison," said Minnesota Director of Athletics Mark Coyle. "His legacy is not only in the stadiums, facilities and buildings that we compete, train and work in, but it is also in the lasting impact that he has had on the thousands of students and staff that he has positively impacted during the last 32 years. We wish Scott and his family all the best in retirement."

Ellison served on numerous organizing committees during his career for NCAA postseason competitions for men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and ice hockey.

He was also the lead on multiple special events, including the 2011 U2 360 Tour Concert, the 2014 MLB All Star Game Concert and the Minnesota Vikings temporary home at TCF Bank Stadium.
