Seven Alums to Represent PWHPA in Florida

Seven Gopher alumnae are among the PWHPA players competing against USPHL teams in Tampa, Fla., this month.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Seven Gopher alumnae are among 24 players from the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) named to the PWHPA All-Star team set to play six games inside the USPHL's "Hub City Tampa" this month.

Gopher alums Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi, Amanda Kessel, Gigi Marvin, Kelly Pannek, Nicole Schammel, and Lee Stecklein are among the PWHPA players on the all-star team.

The PWHPA All-Star team, along with the USPHL teams, are set to stay in Tampa, Fla., for two weeks from Monday, Jan. 4 to Monday, Jan. 18. The PWHPA team will face off in exhibition games against USPHL teams from the Tier-2 NCDC league. They will also take part in on-ice practice sessions and off-ice training.

The PWHPA All-Star team opens competition at Hub City Tampa by facing off against the Tampa Bay Juniors at Thursday, Jan. 7 with additional games scheduled for Friday, Jan. 8, Saturday, Jan. 9, Tuesday, Jan. 12, Thursday, Jan. 14, and Friday, Jan. 15.

Hub City Tampa was developed by the USPHL, based in the northeastern part of the United States, as a means to ensure player safety during the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing its Tier-2 (NCDC) and Tier-3 (Premier, Elite) junior seasons.
