Get to Know Megan Dray

Megan Dray will begin her Gopher softball career this upcoming semester. Dray, a 5-9 catcher/first baseman, played the previous three years at North Carolina. She saw action in 126 collegiate games for the TarHeels and started in all 24 during the shortened 2020 season. Get to know our newest Gopher in this question/answer session.
Why did you decide to join the University of Minnesota program?
Megan Dray: I was excited for the chance to play for a highly competitive program like Minnesota as well as a great opportunity to earn my masters degree in sport management. Coach Ritter and her staff were extremely welcoming. I knew this program would be a great fit for me.
As a grad transfer student and how many years of eligibility do you have remaining and What position have you primarily played?
MD: I have two years of eligibility and will be starting the M.Ed. sports management program this spring. I have spent the majority of my last three years as a catcher.
Tell us a little about yourself, how many siblings do you have, how long have you been playing softball?
MD: I have two older sisters (Brittany a 5th grade teacher and Ally a pre-Dental program student). I am from Lynchburg, Virginia. I have been playing softball since I was eight years old.
What activities do you like to do outside of softball?
MD: I like playing with my one year old black lab puppy named Gryffin. I also enjoy hiking and traveling. I spent the summer of 2019 studying abroad in the Netherlands and was able to visit six European countries during my trip.
Who's your favorite professional athlete and why?
MD: My favorite professional athlete is Jason Witten. I admire his leadership and humble discipline
What was your undergrad major, and what would you like to do for a master's degree? What would you like to do with your undergrad and grad degrees in the future?
MD: In December I graduated with a BS in Business administration with an emphasis in marketing. This spring I am starting the M.Ed. sports management program. My goal after graduation is to work in professional sports marketing.
To date, what is your favorite softball memory?
MD: During my second season I competed in a region final game. My team was able to battle back from an early loss to force the if necessary championship game for the first time in program history.
What are you most looking forward to when coming onto campus next semester?
MD: I'm really excited to start practicing and playing with my new teammates. I'm also excited to start classes and to experience my first Minnesota winter.
