Langdok, Plaschko Sweep Big Ten's Weekly Soccer Defensive Honors

MINNEAPOLIS - Makenzie Langdok and Megan Plaschko have been honored by the Big Ten for their performances last week, as announced by the conference office on Oct. 19. Langdok earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor while Plaschko was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.
"Plaschko is so deserving of being recognized as a top goalkeeper in our conference," head coach Erin Chastain said. "She has consistently been a leader and a great presence for us making play after play for our team."
"I am so proud of Kenz," Chastain added. "She has stepped into the role of outside back with ease and has been defensively very solid. Her goals have been big time and I love that she is finding a way to be dangerous in the attack from that spot."
Minnesotoa is the first team this season to sweep both the Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week honors in the same week. For both Langdok and Plaschko it is the second time they have been awarded for their performances by the conference this year.
Langdok, a graduate student studying Special Education, scored in back-to-back matches for the Gophers in wins over Illinois and Northwestern. The Minnesota defense did not allow a goal in the two wins, making the Gophers the only Big Ten team to post two shutouts last weekend. Langdok scored the game-winning goal against Northwestern in the 1-0 and her long-distance goal against Illinois was featured on Sportscenter's Top 10 plays. The wins over Northwestern and Illinois marked the first time since 2012 the program defeated both teams in the same season.
Plaschko, a double major in Marketing and Communication Studies, posted back-to-back clean sheets this past weekend with a total of seven saves. Her eight shutouts this season is good enough for the second most in the conference this season and inches her closer to the top five for single-season in program history. Plaschko's pair of shut out performances also made her the only Big Ten goalkeeper to not allow a goal during last week's action.
Next up for Minnesota is a road test with Iowa (10-5-1, 4-4-0 B1G) on Thursday, Oct. 21, who is coming off a 3-2 win over Illinois on Sunday. The Gophers will also host Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium with both matches being streamed on BTN+.
