Rachel Hanford advances to the Quarterfinals after consecutive straight set victories
Day 3 got underway with doubles play providing a chance to enter the quarterfinals. Dalila Said and Emilee Duong squared off against a tough Oklahoma pairing. Despite playing many close games, they ultimately fell 1-8, ending the Gophers' doubles play for the weekend.
In the round of 32, Emilee Duong was unable to parlay an excellent second set into a win, eventually losing the 3 set match. Rachel Hanford opposed Kansas State's Manami Ukita, winning a close first set before closing out a more comfortable second. The victory meant the Gophers sent 1 competitor to the final 16 of ITA Central Regionals play. In this round, Hanford carried a dominant first set (6-0) into another straight-set win. She secured her place in the ITA Central Regional Quarterfinal.
Ekin Ercetin won her first match of the main draw consolation bracket; defeating Sapir Sela (North Dakota) 6-3, 6-3. She quickly matched up against Myroslava Zelenchuk (Southeast Missouri) and lost in two hard-fought sets.
In non-bracketed play, the Gophers went 2-4 overall, with both wins coming against Gopher Invitational attendees, Drake. Lucy Lu moved to a winning singles record and Anfisa Danilchenko continued her strong tournament performance.
