MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota offensive lineman Conner Olson has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Recently named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, Olson has already graduated with a double major in Human Physiology and Biology, Society and Environment.
The Monticello, Minn., native is currently working toward an advanced degree in Public Health Administration & Policy MPH, which is a full-time, two year program that focuses on building skills in policy development and advocacy; project, program, and organization management; and data analysis and management.
Olson, who plans to attend medical school, is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten performer, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a 2021 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. Also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First-Team last year, Olson has also started in all 50 games he has played in and has blocked for some of Minnesota's most prolific offenses in recent history.
To be eligible for the Senior CLASS Award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The 30 candidates will then be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The winner will be announced in December.
