Boman, Buisman Earn Academic All-District Nods

The pair are the first Gophers to earn Academic All-District this year after a record-setting 33 honorees for the 'U' last year.
MINNEAPOLIS – Sophia Boman and McKenna Buisman of the Gopher Soccer program were named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team on Thursday.
The 2021 Academic All‐District Women's Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Both Gophers are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors later this year.
Boman led the Gophers in assists (four) and in shots (41) during the 2021 season along with finishing tied for second on the team in goals (four). The Edina, Minn., native was a difference maker throughout the season. She finished with a pair of game-winning goals in games against NCAA tournament opponents. A biology major, Boman helped first-year head coach Erin Chastain get her first Minnesota win in the season-opener against Baylor and then added a game-winning goal against Ohio State to give Chastain her first Big Ten win.
Buisman, who is earning her master's degree in public policy, had a break out year for the Maroon & Gold in 2021. She was tied for second on the team in goals (four) and third on the team in points (nine). She scored her first career brace against Illinois in a 5-0 win at home and added an insurance goal in Minnesota's 4-1 over Penn State at home. Buisman also scored against the eventual Big Ten regular-season champions, Rutgers, in a 2-1 loss at home.
