Set Breakdown:
Set 1: The first set was by far the most competitive of the match. Iowa and Minnesota went blow-for-blow with no team leading by more than four at any point. Minnesota took a 19-15 lead after a 4-0 run gave it some momentum, paced by kills from Samedy and Wenaas. The Hawkeyes would respond with a 4-0 run of their own to tie it up at 19. The two teams would exchange the next four points before the Gophers finished the set on a 3-0 run to take a 25-22 set one win. A dump from Shaffmaster and two straight kills from Miyabe clinched the first frame. The Gophers hit .500 in set one with 18 kills and 18 digs while Iowa hit .341.
Set 2: After splitting the first six points of the set, Minnesota flexed its muscle with an 8-1 run to take an 11-4 lead and force an Iowa timeout. Two straight aces from Rachel Kilkelly started the run and a kill from Samedy concluded it. Iowa would cut the deficit to as low as six at 15-9, but would get no closer the rest of the set as Minnesota finished the frame on a 10-5 run to win, 25-14. Three blocks from Katie Myers helped the Gophers score six of the final eight points. The visitors hit .476 in set two while the home team hit just .087.
Set 3: Iowa and Minnesota split the first 12 points before a 4-0 run from the Gophers gave it some mid-set separation. Two kills from Miyabe and one from Wenaas sparked the spurt. Samedy posted seven of her 12 kills in the third set as she helped the Gophers close out the set and the match for their 48th consecutive win over Iowa. Minnesota finished the set on a 5-1 run, getting a kill from Rubright and the third ace of the night from Kilkelly to win, 25-17.
