Three Gophers Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Ellie Husemann, Melani Shaffmaster and Jenna Wenaas Named Academic All-District
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota volleyball's Ellie Husemann, Melani Shaffmaster and Jenna Wenaas have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team, the organization announced Thursday.
It's the first honor of its kind for each student-athlete. Husemann and Shaffmaster were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team in the past.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution in order to be nominated. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-December.
A 2020 Academic All-Big Ten selection, Ellie Husemann holds a 3.81 cumulative GPA as a human resources and industrial relations major. She's played in 15 matches this year, averaging 1.22 blocks per set, which leads the team. An accounting major in the Carlson School of Management, Melani Shaffmaster holds a 3.52 GPA halfway through her sophomore year. The 2020-21 Academic All-Big Ten selection leads the team and ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 10.57 assists per set. Jenna Wenaas, a health and well-being sciences major, boasts a 3.75 GPA. She ranks second on the team with 3.22 kills per set and has started in every match this season.
The Gophers will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. Central time against No. 5 Wisconsin. Big Ten Network will provide television coverage.
