Samedy Wins Second Straight Big Ten Player of the Week Award

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt senior opposite Stephanie Samedy was named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It's her fifth weekly honor from the conference this season, including her fourth player of the week award. She earns her 12th career Player of the Week honor (tying for second-most in Big Ten history with Penn State's Haleigh Washington from 2014-17).
The Clermont, Fla., native registered 4.86 kills and 4.29 digs per set with a double-double and a .310 hitting percentage to pace the Gophers to road wins at No. 7 Ohio State and No. 25 Illinois last week. She collected 19 kills, 22 digs and a season-high seven blocks in Nov. 4 win at OSU before adding 15 kills on a .400 percentage with eight digs and two aces on Nov. 6 at Illinois.
Samedy ranks in the top 15 nationally in points (5.24) and kills (4.71) per set. She also leads the Big Ten in both categories. She's tallied double doubles in 17 of the 21 matches she's played in this season, including two 20 kill/20 dig performances.
The Gophers (16-6, 11-3Â Big Ten) came in at No. 8 in today's AVCA rankings, which is up three spots from last week. Minnesota has won five straight matches, with four of the wins coming against AVCA top-25 ranked teams. The Gophers have taken eight of their last nine matches and are in a tie for second place in the Big Ten with six games to go. They'll be back in action this week on Thursday at Iowa (4-20, 2-12 Big Ten) and Sunday vs. No. 9 Purdue (18-5, 10-4 Big Ten).
