CC McGraw earns All-America Honorable Mention

MINNEAPOLIS -- Stephanie Samedy has garnered American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-America honors for the fourth time in her career, it was announced today by the AVCA. Samedy is now a five-time All-American after making the first team in 2017, 2018, 2020-21 and 2021. She was a second team honoree in 2019. Only Samedy and Samantha Seliger Swenson ('18) have earned All-America honors four times. Senior libero CC McGraw was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.

Samedy, a right-side from Clermont, Fla., is one of the most decorated players in the history of Gophers volleyball. The five-time All-Big Ten selection is a back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Year in addition to winning consecutive AVCA North Region Player of the Year. Last spring she was named the recipient of the Senior CLASS award, which is chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I women's volleyball coaches, national volleyball media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women's volleyball.

In 2021, Samedy had her best year yet as a Gopher. She led the Big Ten and ranked in the top-10 nationally in points (5.32) and kills (4.75) per set. She tallied 12 matches with 20+ kills and three matches with 30+ kills this year, both of which ranked in the top five nationally. She also averaged 3.61 digs per set, which was a single-season career-high for her. Samedy finishes her career ranked No. 1 all-time in matches played (145), No. 4 in kills (2,026) and No. 6 in digs (1,538). She's the first Gopher and second player in Big Ten history to record 2,000 kills and 1,500 digs in her career.

CC McGraw earns her second career AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2021. The Prior Lake, Minn., native had a career year, finishing second in the Big Ten with 4.59 digs per set, which was a career-best for her. She had eight 20+ dig efforts and three 30+ dig efforts this season. Only four other Big Ten athletes had a match with 30-or-more digs in 2021. McGraw also averaged 0.82 assists and 0.25 aces per set, both of which ranked second on the team.

McGraw totaled 510 digs this year, which was a career-best. She joins Paula Gentil as the only other Gophers player to record three-or-more seasons of 400+ digs. She also ranks No. 5 all-time at Minnesota with 1,554 digs. She'll be back in 2022 as a fifth-year senior to try and add to that total.
