Landfair Named Big Ten's Freshman of the Week

University of Minnesota outside hitter Taylor Landfair (Plainfield, Ill.) has been named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, announced today by the league office. This is Landfair's first league honor and Minnesota's second-straight freshman of the week honor as Melani Shaffmaster was awarded it in the opening week of play.
In just her second weekend of collegiate competition, Landfair added a team-best 20 kills and averaged 3.33 kills per set in a pair of wins over Maryland. She also hit .311 on the weekend, had an assist, four digs and four blocks. On Friday, Landfair had nine kills and two blocks. She followed Saturday with a team-best 11 kills, hit .500, committed just one error in 20 swings and had two blocks. In her first two weeks, Landfair averages 2.82 kills per set, has 31 kills and seven blocks.
The Gophers play at No. 13 Purdue Friday and Saturday nights. Minnesota's match Friday is on Big Ten Network at 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday's match is 4 p.m. CT and streamed on BTN +.
