Hooten Claims B1G Freshman and Specialist of the Week

Mya Hooten was named both the Big Ten Freshman and Specialist of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The pair of honors comes after Hooten helped the Gophers defeat Iowa and Maryland at the Iowa tri-meet this past Saturday in Iowa City. This is the first conference accolade of Hooten's career.
Hooten shined in three events during the meet. She won the first bars title of her career and set a new career-high 9.875 on the event. Hooten also posted a career-high 9.875 on vault to tie for third. Her energy-packed floor routine scored a 9.925 to finish her night. Hooten is currently No. 11 in the conference on floor and No. 22 on vault.
Minnesota will return home to face Rutgers at Maturi Pavilion on Saturday, February 20th. The meet is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
