Samedy, Pittman Named Senior CLASS Candidates

Regan Pittman and Stephanie Samedy has been named two of 30 candidates up for the Senior CLASS Award, announced today by the organization.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Pittman, a 6-5 middle blocker from Spring Hill, Kan., had an outstanding 2019 season when she was named an AVCA and Volleyball Magazine First Team All-American. She also garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors, her second-straight season of doing so. Pittman has already received her bachelor's degree in recreation administration. She currently carries a 3.5 GPA is her pursuit of a master's program in youth development leadership. During her academic career, Pittman earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. She has also done community service work with Masonic Children's Hospital, HopeKids, a camp counselor with Three Rivers Park and Team Impact.
Samedy, a 6-2 opposite hitter from Clermont, Fla., is as a three-time AVCA All-American. The three-time All-Big Ten First Team selection led the Gophers in kills (353), kills per set (3.07) and attempts (1002) in 2019. Samedy, who is in pursuit of her bachelor's degree in psychology, will graduate in the spring. During her career, she has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. She also has done community service contributions to HopeKids organization and Team Impact.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later this month. Candidates will be best chosen who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in April.
