Boman Collects B1G Freshman of the Week Honor

MINNEAPOLIS - Midfielder Sophia Boman has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
For Boman, the accolade marks the first Big Ten weekly honor of the freshman's young career. As a team, Minnesota has now claimed three total Big Ten weekly awards on the season, as Katie Koker and Megan Plaschko were named Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week just last Tuesday.
Having played every minute for the Gophers so far this season, Boman earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as a result of her performance in Minnesota's win over Iowa this past Sunday. Powering the Gophers to a 1-0 victory, Boman scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute of play, finding the back of the net on a perfect shot from outside the 18-yard box.
Boman recorded four total shots in Minnesota's win over Iowa, including two on target while playing all 90 minutes. The freshman midfielder is one of just four players on the Gopher roster to play all 587 minutes for the Maroon & Gold this season.
As a result of Boman's clutch performance on Sunday, Minnesota has now won three out of their last four games and has not lost a decision since Feb. 25. The Gophers head into this Thursday's game at Penn State with a 3-1-2 overall record, sitting in sole possession of third place in the Big Ten standings.
