Stekr, Boman Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

MINNEAPOLIS – Delaney Stekr has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, with Sophia Boman garnering Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
For Stekr, the award represents the junior defender's first-ever Big Ten weekly honor. As for Boman, Tuesday's announcement marks her second career Freshman of the Week accolade, as she previously earned the honor on March 16 following her first career goal against Iowa.
Across the previous week of play, Stekr played all 180 minutes as the Gophers went 2-0 with a pair of 1-0 shutout victories against Purdue and Maryland at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Stekr played a particularly vital role in Minnesota's March 25 win over Purdue, assisting Boman's game-winning goal in the 82nd minute to lift the team to victory. The assist marked Stekr's first career point.
Similarly to Stekr, Boman played all 180 minutes last week as Minnesota went 2-0 at home. Against Purdue, Boman scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, deflecting the ball into the back of the net off of a beautiful service delivered by Stekr. With the goal, Boman now has two goals and one assist on the season, pacing all Gophers with five total points. Boman has played all 947 minutes for the Gophers this season.
