Gophers to Open Big Ten Tournament Against Nebraska
3/6/2021 9:39:00 PM | Women's Basketball
MINNEAPOLIS – Earning the No. 9 seed, Minnesota (8-12, 7-11 Big Ten) will open play Wednesday morning at the 2021 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament against No. 8 Nebraska (11-11, 9-10 B1G). Tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
The Golden Gophers and Cornhuskers have met twice already this season with Minnesota prevailing in both contests. First was a 76-71 victory in Lincoln on Jan. 19, while the regular season sweep was completed with a 73-63 triumph in Minneapolis on Feb. 24.
Minnesota is looking to beat the same team three times in one season for the first time since winning all three contests against Wisconsin during the 2013-14 campaign.
Wednesday will be just the second matchup between Minnesota and Nebraska at the Big Ten Tournament. The other instance came in the 2014 quarterfinals when the Huskers recorded an 80-67 victory.
This is also just the second time that Minnesota has been the No. 9 seed at the tournament and the second time it has faced the No. 8 seed. In 2011 the ninth-seeded Gophers fell in the first round to No. 8 Northwestern.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to face top-seeded Maryland (21-2, 17-1 B1G) Thursday at 10 a.m. on FS2.
