Following her season-opening race, Bethany Hasz is the Big Ten's Co-Track Athlete of the Week this week.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Bethany Hasz has been named the Big Ten Conference's Co-Track Athlete of the Week following her outdoor season-opening race, the B1G announced Wednesday. Hasz won the 5,000 meters at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #2 on Friday night.

Hasz ran an outdoor career-best time of 15:43.58 to win the meet and improve on her previous PR and Minnesota program record time of 15:45.72. Hasz cruised to the victory with a 43-second win ahead of runner-up Addie Engel of Ohio State (16:26.38). Hasz's time was the best in the nation over the weekend, and she leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth in the country for the season so far.

The award marks Hasz's career Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award. She earned B1G Track Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season after winning the 3,000 meters in her season debut at the Hawkeye Border Battle.
