Gophers Sweep Iowa To Close Out Regular Season

The No. 3 University of Minnesota volleyball program ended the 2021 regular spring season with a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-14, 25-16), over Iowa today at Maturi Pavilion. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 15-2 overall and in the Big Ten. Iowa closed out with a 4-16 overall and league record.
Minnesota was led by Stephanie Samedy, who had 14 kills, followed by Adanna Rollins with 11 kills and 10 digs for the double double. Taylor Landfair added seven kills, followed by Regan Pittman with six. Melani Shaffmaster added 38 assists and nine digs. Jenna Wenaas added 10 digs, while libero Rachel Kilkelly had six. Landfair and Pittman also added three aces apiece, while Shea Rubright and Samedy both contributed three blocks.
As a team, Minnesota hit .371, 48 kills, had eight aces, 49 digs and five blocks. Iowa hit .135, had 28 kills, four aces, 32 digs and two blocks.
Next Up
Minnesota will await the NCAA selection announcement, Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPNU. The field went from 64 to 48 this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. All rounds of the 2021 spring championship will be held in Omaha, Neb., April 14-24.

-Minnesota honored its senior class: Hunter Atherton, Airi Miyabe, Samedy and Pittman following the match and all their contributions to the program.
-The Gophers are now 81-11 all time against the Hawkeyes, with the last loss coming to Iowa in 1995.
