Shaffmaster, Landfair Garner B1G Weekly Honors

A pair of University of Minnesota volleyball student-athletes garnered weekly Big Ten weekly honors, announced today by the league office. Melani Shaffmaster was named Big Ten Setter of the Week, while Taylor Landfair was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. It's Shaffmaster's third weekly honor this year and second for Landfair. Minnesota closes out the 2021 spring season with eight weekly honors.
Shaffmaster averaged 12.17 assists per set when she aided the Gophers to a .409 hitting clip last weekend. The New Castle, Ind., native had 73 assists, 18 digs, six kills and a block against the Iowa Hawkeyes. On the season, Shaffmaster averages 9.61 assists per set, has 567 assists, 53 kills, 169 digs and 36 blocks.
Landfair hit .425 on the weekend when she produced 19 kills and averaged 3.17 kills per set. Hailing from Plainfield, Ill., she also had four assists, five aces, seven digs and one block. On the season, Landfair averages 3.00 kills per set, has 186 kills and 33 blocks.
Minnesota is off this weekend before it travels to Omaha, Neb., to compete in the NCAA Division I Championship, April 15. Minnesota, who is the No. 3 overall seed, will face the winner of Georgia Tech/Lipscomb in the NCAA Second Round.
