Partain, DenHartog Named First Team All-Big Ten; Eight Gophers Receive Honors

The No. 24 University of Minnesota softball team had eight individuals receive Big Ten honors, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Natalie DenHartog and MaKenna Partain have been named First Team All-Big Ten, while Amber Fiser, Emily Hansen, Katelyn Kemmetmueller and Autumn Pease were named Second Team All-Big Ten. Fiser was also named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team, while Sara Kinch was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Carlie Brandt received Minnesota's Sportsmanship Award.
This is the first All-Big Ten softball honors since 2019 as the 2020 season was shortened due to COVID-19.
DenHartog, a junior outfielder from Hopkins, Minn., led the Big Ten with 13 home runs. During 2021, she ranked second on the team in hitting (.319) when she started in all 40 games, has 119 at bats, had 38 hits, 27 runs scored, eight doubles, 35 RBIs and 87 total bases. She held a team-best .731 slugging percentage and .456 on-base percentage. It marks the second-straight time DenHartog has received First-Team All-Big Ten honors as she garnered the award in 2019.
Partain, a senior from Banks, Ore., received her third First Team All-Big Ten honor. Playing in all 40 games for the Gophers, she led the team with a .331 batting average, 33 runs scored and 43 hits. She also had 20 RBIs, 75 total bases and a .577 slugging percentage. She also had 23 walks and a .450 on-base percentage. In 2021, Partain became the school record holder in runs scored and currently ranks third in NCAA career active leaders. As a senior, Partain received Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice this year.
Fiser, a pitcher from Van Horne, Iowa is receiving her third All-Big Ten. She has made 27 appearances this season, including 23 starts and pitched 13 complete games. She has pitched in 153.2 innings, is 15-8 this season and holds a 2.19 season ERA. She's also struck out 128 batters this season. Fiser ranks first in NCAA career active leaders in games started (139) and strikeouts (939). She also ranks third in career active leaders in innings pitched at 845.3.
Hansen hails is a designated player/first base from Buffalo, Minn. Playing in 38 games for the Gophers this season, Hansen had 23 RBIs and a .404 slugging percentage. She had 109 at bats, had 27 hits and 44 total bases. As a junior, Hansen hit two home runs, nine doubles and a .341 on-base percentage. It marks Hansen's first All-Big Ten honor.
Kemmetmueller is from Rogers, Minn., and is a standout at third base. Seeing action in 36 games for the Gophers, Kemmetmueller hit .315 during the regular season. In 108 at bats, she has 34 hits, scored 24 runs and hit seven home runs and 18 RBIs. She holds a .556 slugging percentage and .423 on-base percentage. It marks her first All-Big Ten honor as she was an All-Big Ten Defensive Team selection as a junior.
Pease holds a team-best 1.63 ERA this year. The junior from Murrieta, Calif., threw her first collegiate no-hitter in the 2-0 win over Nebraska (4/1721). On the season, she holds an 11-2 record, allowed 24 earned runs in 103.0 innings pitched. Making 21 appearances and 17 starts, Pease has also pitched four complete games and she had 94 strikeouts and walked just 18 batters.
A catcher from Temecula, Calif., Kinch played in all 40 games including 38 starts. In her rookie season, Kinch hit .259 and had eight home runs and 16 RBIs. Named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this year, Kinch held a .509 slugging percentage. She had 108 at bats in the regular season and had 28 hits.
Starting shortstop Carlie Brandt hails from LeSueur, Minn., and played in 36 games this year. Over the course of her four-year career, Brandt has played in 181 games.
