Four Gophers Land a Spot on NFCA All-Region Second Team

Four University of Minnesota softball student-athletes landed a spot on the NFCAÂ Great Lakes Region Second Team, announced today by the organization. Natalie DenHartog, Amber Fiser, MaKenna Partain and Autumn Pease all garnered the award. It marks Partain's fourth all-region honor, Fiser's third, DenHartog's second and Pease's first.Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.Â
DenHartog, a junior outfielder from Hopkins, Minn., led the Big Ten with 13 home runs. During 2021, she ranked second on the team in hitting (.319) when she started in all 40 games, has 119 at bats, had 38 hits, 27 runs scored, eight doubles, 35 RBIs and 87 total bases. She held a team-best .731 slugging percentage and .456 on-base percentage. It marks the second-straight time DenHartog has received First-Team All-Big Ten honors as she garnered the award in 2019.
Fiser, a pitcher from Van Horne, Iowa is receiving her third All-Big Ten. She has made 27 appearances this season, including 23 starts and pitched 13 complete games. She has pitched in 153.2 innings, is 15-8 this season and holds a 2.19 season ERA. She's also struck out 128 batters this season. Fiser ranks first in NCAA career active leaders in games started (139) and strikeouts (939). She also ranks third in career active leaders in innings pitched at 845.3.Â
Partain, a senior from Banks, Ore., received her third First Team All-Big Ten honor. Playing in all 40 games for the Gophers, she led the team with a .331 batting average, 33 runs scored and 43 hits. She also had 20 RBIs, 75 total bases and a .577 slugging percentage. She also had 23 walks and a .450 on-base percentage. In 2021, Partain became the school record holder in runs scored and currently ranks third in NCAA career active leaders. As a senior, Partain received Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice this year.
Pease holds a team-best 1.63 ERA this year. The junior from Murrieta, Calif., threw her first collegiate no-hitter in the 2-0 win over Nebraska (4/1721). On the season, she holds an 11-2 record, allowed 24 earned runs in 103.0 innings pitched. Making 21 appearances and 17 starts, Pease has also pitched four complete games and she had 94 strikeouts and walked just 18 batters.Â
