University of Minnesota men's basketball program has announced the addition of Jackson Purcell to the Golden Gopher program. Purcell, a 6-5 guard hailing from Apple Valley, Minn., joins the Gophers this summer.

"Jackson Purcell is a tough competitor and a good shooter who bleeds Maroon and Gold," head coach Ben Johnson said. "We're excited to have him attend the University of Minnesota and join our team."

Purcell joins the Gophers after playing at Eastview High School and Minnesota Select. As a senior last year, Purcell averaged 12.8 points per games and scored in double figures eight of 11 games before an injury sidelined him during the season. He helped the Lightning to a South Suburban League championship, the team's second straight in as many years. An all-conference selection in 2020-21, Purcell helped Eastview to an 11-0 start before the injury occurred. For his efforts, he was also named to the 2021 Mr. Basketball Watch List. As a junior, Purcell aided Eastview to a 24-4 record and its first of two conference championship en route to the Class 4A Section 3 finals. He was also named an all-conference honorable mention that season.

Purcell graduated from Eastview this month and has been admitted into the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management.
