Gopher Alums Race in Semifinals

Heather Kampf and Shane Streich competed in the semifinal heats of their respective races at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Saturday.
EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Minnesota alumni Heather (Dorniden) Kampf and Shane Streich both saw their journeys at the Olympic Trials come to an end in the semifinal rounds in their respective events at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.
Kampf finished 23rd in the semifinal round of the women's 1,500 meters, clocking a time of 4:21.56 for 12th in her heat. The top five finishers in each of two semifinal heats plus the next two fastest times advanced to Monday's final.
Streich, who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2020 and spent the 2020-21 season attending graduate school and competing for Lipscomb University, clocked a time of 1:46.92 in the men's 800-meter semifinals. The top three finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times advanced to Monday's final. Streich's time landed him sixth in his heat and eighth overall; the two time-qualifiers came from his heat.
Action continues for the Gopher representatives at the U.S. Olympic Trials with redshirt senior Abby Kohut-Jackson and alumna Madeline Strandemo racing in the first round of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Sunday evening.
