Minnesota has 10 players recognized by Phil Steele Publications
Ten University of Minnesota football players were recognized by Phil Steele Publications in advance of the 2021 season.
The publication recently announced its preseason Big Ten teams and seven Gophers were named to an offensive team, while three were slotted onto a defensive team. Minnesota's seven nominees on offense were tied with Ohio State for the most in the conference.
On offense, running back Mohamed Ibrahim and offensive lineman Conner Olson were named to the First Team, while quarterback Tanner Morgan and offensive lineman Blaise Andries were named to the Second Team. Receiver Chris Autman-Bell and offensive linemen John Michael Schmitz and Daniel Faalele were placed on the Third Team.
Ibrahim was also named a Preseason All-American and was placed on the Second Team.
On defense, defensive back Coney Durr and defensive lineman Nyles Pinckney were recognized on the Third Team, while linebacker Mariano Sori-Marin was honored with a Fourth Team selection.
The Gophers start the season at home at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Ohio State. Minnesota recently announce full capacity for the upcoming season and season tickets are available.
