Minnesota women's basketball welcomes four newcomers to the team for the 2021-22 season. GopherSports.com is sitting down with each of them to get to know them better as they prepare for their first season in the Maroon and Gold.
Up next, it's Alanna Micheaux (mih-SHOW), a 6'2 freshman from Wayne Memorial High School in Wayne, Mich, who was a four-star recruit, the No. 75 player overall in the country and the No. 9 power forward according to ProspectNation.com. She was a Michigan Miss Basketball finalist and first-team all-state as a senior after averaging 23 points and 12 rebounds per contest.

Alanna Micheaux: "I started playing basketball about four years ago, so I was 13 or 14 years old."
GS: What made you decide to play?

AM: "In middle school my friends were telling me that I was really tall and basketball would be a good sport for me to play. And then I started loving the game."
GS: When did you realize you might be able to play in college?

AM: "I would say my freshman year, that summer I got my first offer."
GS: What was your recruiting process like?
GS: What was your recruiting process like?
AM: "I'm not sure how to explain it, but I enjoyed it and got to meet a lot of people. I got to learn a lot about different programs and what their philosophies were for their teams."
GS: What made you decide on Minnesota?
GS: What made you decide on Minnesota?
AM: "It was the connection with the coaches. They made me feel like I was at home before I even came here."
GS: How familiar were you with Lindsay Whalen and the success she had in her career?

AM: "I knew about her, but when I started to understand Minnesota more my dad and I would talk about her a lot and the success she's had. We talked about all the stuff she's got under her belt and how she can help me in the future become a better player."
GS: How would you describe your game?

AM: "I like to say that I'm a physical player, and I'm really good in the post. And I'll go get a rebound for you."
GS: What have been your impressions of practicing with your new teammates?

AM: "I feel like it's a really good team and there's a lot of talent here. You have to work hard to fit in and be able to play with this team."
GS: Have there been any specific teammates that have helped you so far?

AM: "I would say everyone on the team has helped with that through my transition to becoming a college player."
GS: Have you noticed a jump in competition coming from high school to college?

AM: "Yeah, it's been a tremendous jump with the size and speed the of the players."
GS: You're going to wear No. 54. Is there any significance to that number?

AM: "It was my mom's number in college when she played at Kansas, so I wanted to continue her journey of being a basketball star."
