Minnesota student-athletes set numerous school academic records during the 2020-21 season.

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota student-athletes have once again raised the standards of academic excellence throughout Gopher Athletics as the 'U' celebrated numerous record-breaking scholastic achievements during the 2020-21 academic year.

As a department, the University of Minnesota set a new school record with a 3.44 cumulative grade point average in Spring 2021 as the Gophers improved their academic performance for the seventh-straight semester. Last November, the 'U' also posted a program-record 94 percent graduation rate for the second-straight year as measured by the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate. Gopher Athletics has now recorded its three-highest GSR statistics in school history over the last three years with 94 percent in both 2019 and 2020 and a 93 percent in 2018.

Individually, Maroon & Gold student-athletes also excelled in the classroom during the 2020-21 campaign with 180 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, 431 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, 15 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections. All four honors stand out as school records for the University of Minnesota.

"The last year has been a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes. In addition to returning to competition and representing the University of Minnesota with pride, they also set a new standard for academic excellence despite challenging circumstances," J.T. Bruett, the Director of the Lindahl Academic Center said. "We offer our congratulations to each and every one of them on a job well done, and we would also like to thank everyone who has supported their athletic and academic efforts this year."
