Danny Ogele is ready to make the jump to the Big Ten.

Ogele had two-year stints at both Mercyhurst (2019-21) and at Navy (2018-20) before coming to Minnesota for the 2021-22 campaign. The 6-7 forward from Chicago, Ill., had 14 starts with the Lakers, scored 158 points, 19 blocks and 70 rebounds. In his first year with Mercyhurst, Ogele played in one game before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He came back in 2020-21 and started in all 13 where he averaged 10.5 points per game and a team-high 4.8 rebounds per game. He also added six block and 10 double-digit scoring games.

In his final season at the Naval Academy (2019-20), Ogele appeared in 28 games and averaged 10.1 minutes played. He also averaged 2.5 rbg and had seven blocks. Ogele played high school basketball at Saint Ignatius Prep where he averaged 17 points and seven rebounds his senior year. He was named a two-time Chicago Catholic All-League selection and was a fourth-team all-state honoree. He also played AAU basketball with Illinois Celtics.

"Danny began his collegiate career at the Naval Academy and it shows," head coach Ben Johnson said. "He's got all the characteristics we want in a player: hardworking, gritty, competitive and resilient. He'll provide some quality minutes and help us win games. We're excited to work with him."

Ogele earned a bachelor's degree in cyber security and will begin a master's degree in security technologies at Minnesota.
