First game is played at Huntington Bank Stadium.
The Gophers opened a new chapter in their history on September 12, 2009 when they played their first game at Huntington Bank Stadium against the Air Force Falcons. A 17-point fourth quarter propelled the Gophers to a 20-13 win in front of a sellout crowd.
Huntington Bank Stadium boasts one of the largest home locker rooms in college or professional football and the main high-definition video display in the stadium is one of the largest in college sports at approximately 48 feet high by 108 feet wide. The Daktronics HD-16 technology featured in the board was the first of its kind in the Big Ten Conference.
Super Bowl winning coach and former quarterback for the Golden Gophers Tony Dungy called the stadium "unbelievable" and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter said that the on-campus facility "will give the University of Minnesota a chance to compete not only in the Big Ten but nationally for some of the best athletes."
In addition to Minnesota college football games, Huntington Bank Stadium has hosted Gopher hockey games, Monday Night Football, MLB All-Star concert, the Rolling Stones and U2. The Minnesota Vikings played their 2014 and 2015 seasons at Huntington Bank Stadium, while their stadium was under construction.
