Tim Schade wowed in a record-breaking debut.

In his first career start, Tim Schade's threw for 478 yards against Penn State in 1993 to break Minnesota's single-game passing mark, which was previously 444 yards and set by Mike Hohensee in a 35-31 victory against Ohio State in 1981. 

Omar Douglas had 11 catches for 193 yards for Minnesota against the Nittany Lions, also a school yardage record at the time. This receiving mark has since been topped by Ryan Thelwell's 228 yards against Ball State (9/14/1996), Tyler Johnson's 204 yard game against Auburn (1/1/2020) and Rashod Bateman's 203 yards against Penn State (11/9/2019).

Schade played the 1993 and 1994 seasons for Minnesota and his 3,986 career yards ranks tenth in school history.
