CHICAGO -- In its 37th year of honoring the nation's best high school athletes, Gatorade announced today that Carter Booth (Cherry Creek H.S., Denver, Colo.) and Mckenna Wucherer (Brookfield Central H.S., Brookfield, Wis.) are the 2021-22 Gatorade Colorado and Wisconsin Volleyball Players of the Year, respectively. They are the first ever Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year winners to be chosen from their high schools.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Booth and Wucherer as their state's best high school volleyball player. They are both finalists for the prestigious Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award, which will be announced in January.

Booth, 6-foot-7 senior middle blocker, led the Bruins to a 26-2 record and the Class 5A state championship this past season. Booth amassed 335 kills to go with 127 blocks, 70 digs and 35 service aces, while recording a .453 hitting percentage. A First Team Under Armour All-American, she was selected the Class 5A Player of the Year and is ranked as the nation's No. 14 prospect in the Class of 2022 by PrepVolleyball.com.

A 6-foot-1 senior outside, Wucherer compiled 444 kills and 210 digs this past season, leading the Lancers (35-12) to the Division 1 state semifinals. She also tallied 50 service aces and 30 blocks while posting a kill percentage of .536 and a hitting percentage of .414. A 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association First Team All-American selection, Wucherer missed several matches during the season while winning a bronze medal at the Under-18 World Championships in Mexico with the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team. Ranked as the nation's No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2022 by both PrepDig.com and PrepVolleyball.com, she concluded her prep volleyball career with 2,028 kills and 1,076 digs.

Both players will be on campus at Minnesota next week for the start of winter workouts and conditioning. The Gophers are set to return six players who started matches from last season, including All-Big Ten honorees CC McGraw (first team) and Jenna Wenaas (second team). Minnesota finished No. 7 in the final AVCA Coaches Poll after finishing the 2021 season in the NCAA Regional Finals.
