Golden Gophers to Compete in ITA Central Regional

Minnesota hits the road for the first time this fall to participate in the ITA Central Regional.

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota tennis team will be traveling to Stillwater, Okla., to compete in the 2022 ITA Division I Central Regional Championship this weekend. Oklahoma State University will be hosting the five-day event from Oct. 13-17. 

The singles and doubles finalists of the regional event will earn an automatic berth to the ITA National Fall Championships that will be held in San Diego, Calif., from Nov. 2-6. 

Tournament format

Thursday, Oct. 13 – One qualifying doubles round, two qualifying singles rounds, and one main draw doubles round.

Friday, Oct. 14 – One round of 128 singles, followed by qualified 64 singles, and a round of 32 doubles.

Saturday, Oct. 15 – Qualified 32 singles, followed by qualified 16 singles and 16 doubles.

Sunday, Oct. 16 – Quarterfinals singles, quarterfinals doubles, and semifinals doubles.

Monday, Oct. 17 – Semifinals singles, final singles and finals doubles. 

Gopher Participants

The Maroon and Gold will have seven participants in the ITA Central Regional; Vasia Karvouni, Lucy Lu, Zeyneb Sarioglan, Zoey Weil, Aiva Schmitz, Anet Koskel and Sofia Pizzoni

On the Docket

Following the ITA Central Regional, Minnesota will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the San Diego State Invitational from Nov. 11-13.
