ITA Central Regional Day 1 Recap

Day 1 in Stillwater, Okla. saw the Gophers go 1-1 in singles play and 1-2 in doubles play.
STILLWATER, OKLA. – The Maroon and Gold kicked off the 2022 ITA Central Regional Championship with qualifying singles in the round of 128. Zeyneb Sarioglan swept round 128, defeating Alex Hildreth of Bradley University 6-0, 6-2. In the qualifying round of 64, Sarioglan was eliminated by Nore Heinitz of North Dakota 3-6, 4-6.
Afternoon play consisted of doubles matches in the round of 64. All three Gopher pairings competed; Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil, Lucy Lu and Sofia Pizzoni, and Aiva Schmitz and Vasia Karvouni.
Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil faced off against Sumomo Hamanaga and Nonoka Kazama of Central Arkansas. The pairing advanced on to round 32 of doubles, winning 8-5 over Central Arkansas in round 64. Pairing Lucy Lu and Sofia Pizzoni dropped to Jessica Anzo and Kristina Kudryavtseva of Wichita State, 4-8. The third Gopher pairing Aiva Schmitz and Vasia Karvouni fell to Eva Kresovic and Catherine Chrobak of Missouri, Kansas City, 4-8 to close out the day.
