ITA Central Regional Day 4 Recap

Day 4 in Stillwater, Okla. saw Minnesota advance to the main draw doubles final.

STILLWATER, OKLA. – The University of Minnesota tennis team started day four of the ITA Central Regional Championship with the consolation doubles quarterfinals and the main draw doubles quarterfinals. 

Zeyneb Sarioglan and Lucy Lu fell 4-8 to their Tulsa opponents, Lily Hutchings and Ana Paula Naranjo Martinez Kobash.

No. 12 ranked duo Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil won back-to-back matches to secure a spot in the main draw doubles finals. Koskel and Weil defeated Lingwei Kong and Natsumi Kurahashi of Wichita State 8-5 in the main draw doubles quarterfinals. The Maroon and Gold duo advanced to the semifinals to compete against No. 8 of Oklahoma, Emma Staker and Alexandra Pisareva. The Gopher pairing triumphed past the Oklahoma duo in a comeback 1-6, 6-1, [10]-[6] victory to secure a spot in the final.

"Regionals is one of the biggest tournaments of the Fall so Jaan and I were happy to see Zoey and Anet win back to back matches today to head to the final. We are looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow and the chance to play for a title," said head coach Catrina Thompson.

Koskel and Weil will face off against No. 2 ranked Iowa duo Chie Kezuka and Ange Oby in the main draw doubles final tomorrow, Oct. 17. The time of the final match will be determined shortly.
