Minnesota to Compete in ITA National Fall Championships

The Golden Gophers qualified for the ITA National Fall Championship, marking a first during the Thompson era of coaching.
The University of Minnesota tennis program qualified for the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships following competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla. The five-day event will run from Nov. 2-6 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Two of its newest athletes, Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil, qualified for the National Fall Championships. The dynamic duo travels to San Diego to represent the Golden Gophers at the Barnes Tennis Center. This expedition marks a career first for head coach Catrina Thompson. This pairing marks her first two qualifiers for the National Fall Championships since beginning her Minnesota coaching career in 2017.
"We are excited for the opportunity to head to San Diego this week and compete at Fall Nationals. Zoey and Anet earned their spot in this elite field and will be up for the challenge competing against other top players in the country," said Thompson.
Koskel and Weil won back-to-back matches at the ITA Central Regional Championships to secure a spot in the finals in Stillwater, Okla. Despite dropping to Iowa in the finals, the top two doubles pairings advanced on to the National Fall Championships.
The five-day championship tournament features 64 of the nation's top collegiate men's and women's singles players and doubles teams. Koskel and Weil make up one pairing of the 32 women's duos that qualified for this event.
Tournament format
The tournament will run as an at-large and wild card submissions form and is the grand finale to the fall collegiate season.
