Ibrahim Named Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week

Gopher back leads the nation with 18 rushing touchdowns

University of Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week after his dominating performance against Northwestern on Saturday. 

Ibrahim, who leads the nation with 18 rushing touchdowns, carried the ball 36 times on Saturday, while gaining 178 yards and scoring three touchdowns as Minnesota defeated Northwestern 31-3. 

Ibrahim, who was named the 2020 Big Ten Running Back of the Year, has played in nine games this year and ranks fifth in the nation with 1,261 rushing yards. According to Pro Football Focus, he ranks first in the Power 5 in yards after contact with 861 and ranks second in the Power 5 with 38 rushes of 10+ yards.

Ibrahim has rushed for more than 100 yards or more in his last 18 games, which according to ESPN is the longest streak by an FBS player since 2000. The Baltimore, Md., native has played in only 38 career games, but ranks sixth all-time in Big Ten history with 51 career rushing touchdowns.

Ibrahim and the Gophers return to action this Saturday when they host Iowa at 3 p.m. on FOX.
