Graduate transfer Gabbie Cesarone picks up her fifth post-season award

MINNEAPOLIS – Gabbie Cesarone has been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team, as announced by the publication on Tuesday.

The 2022 Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Cesarone is the first Golden Gopher to achieve CSC Academic All-America First Team recognition since April Bockin in 2018. She is the tenth from Minnesota to be recognized to both the All-America and All-District teams.

A graduate transfer from WashU, Cesarone made a big impact in her one-year stint with the Maroon & Gold. The St. Charles, Ill., native ended the season leading Minnesota in goals (six), field player minutes (1,670), and game-winning goals (four).

Majoring in public health admin and policy, Cesarone was recognized as Big Ten Defender of the Week on Oct. 11 and recognized to the All-Big Ten Second and All-Big Ten Tournament Teams. She was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Third and CSC Academic All-District Teams.

In Erin Chastain's second season as head coach, the Maroon & Gold finished with an 8-8-3 (4-4-2 Big Ten) record, including their first result against a top-ten opponent since 2015. Minnesota finished eighth in the Big Ten, handing its first post-season bid since the 2018 season, and the first Big Ten Tournament appearance in the Chastain Era.
