Minnesota announces the addition of two-time All-Big East honoree, Jordy Rothwell

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota head soccer coach Erin Chastain has announced the addition of graduate transfer defender Jordyn "Jordy" Rothwell to the Gophers' roster for the 2023 season. Rothwell joins Minnesota after playing her undergraduate campaign at Creighton.

"I chose the University of Minnesota because I felt at home right when I got on campus, met the team and coaches," said Rothwell. "Minnesota will help me grow and develop as a soccer player, student, and person for my last year of collegiate athletics."

A three year captain, Rothwell was a consistent starter in the Blue Jays' backline, making an appearance in almost every game since her freshman season. In 2019, Rothwell earned a spot on the Big East All-Freshman team after earning the starting job and appearing in all 18 matches.

During a shortened season in 2020 due to COVID-19, Rothwell started each match of her sophomore slate, logging the second-most minutes on the team at 908. She led the Creighton defense to its first Big East Tournament appearance while assisting in multiple shutouts, allowing one goal in a four-game stretch.

Her junior season, Rothwell started and played every minute of the 12 matches she participated in, accumulating 1,142 minutes of playing time. The captain secured a career high of two goals in a win over Oral Roberts. The Fitchburg, Wis., native earned Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6, 2021 after helping the Blue Jays win back-to-back shutouts over South Dakota and South Dakota State.

In her final season, Rothwell started 17 matches and appeared in all 20, notching 1,538 minutes. Finishing out the season with a goal against Marquette, Rothwell was named to the All-Big East Second Team and the 2022 CSC Academic All-District Team.

Jordy is the daughter of Mark and Julie and has two siblings, her younger sister Hailey and twin brother Brandon. Her father Mark played football at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. While studying at the University of Minnesota, Rothwell intends to pursue a masters in exercise science.
