Scalia, Winters Garner All-Big Ten Honors

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota junior Sara Sclia and graduate student Deja Winters have each earned All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Scalia was named Second Team All-Big Ten by the league's coaches and media covering the conference. Meanwhile, Winters was chosen Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the media. In addition, center Bailey Helgren was tabbed as the school's Sportsmanship Award representative.
An All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection last season, Scalia has led the Gophers in scoring the entire season with an average of 17.8 per game. She's eighth overall in scoring in the conference this season and is seventh during Big Ten play at 19.4. Her 101 made threes this season are the most in the conference and is good enough for the second most in the nation and is tied for the second most in a single season in program history. Her 42.6 percent rate from three is the fourth-best in the Big Ten and is good enough for 15th in the nation.
In her lone year with the Maroon and Gold, Winters has proved to be one of the Big Ten's best defenders while also being one of the best outside shooters. Scoring at a rate of 11.6 per game this season, Winters' 40.6 percent from three is seventh in the Big Ten and her 39.6 percent during conference play is the eighth-best. On the defensive end Winters is the team's leader in blocks and steals and her 1.7 steals during conference play is the 11th best while her 1.0 blocks per game overall this season is the 11th best rate and top five among the Big Ten's guards.
This conference season Helgren has been one of the conference's top shot blockers. Her 16 blocks during conference play has her 13th in the Big Ten. She's second on the team in field goal percentage at 58.1 and has played in all 30 games this season while making 13 starts.
As the No. 10 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the Golden Gophers (14-16, 7-11 B1G) will open play Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT against No. 7 Northwestern (16-11, 8-8) on Big Ten Network.
