'U' Receives No. 2 Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament

Minnesota will face the winner of Minnesota Duluth and Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 seed Golden Gopher women's hockey team will face the winner of eight seed Minnesota Duluth and nine seed Harvard after the NCAA unveiled the 11-team bracket for the 2022 National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship on Sunday evening.
Minnesota Duluth and Harvard will play at 6:00 p.m. CT on Thursday with the winner facing Minnesota at Ridder Arena at 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.
"Our team is very excited to be in the NCAA Tournament and to be hosting a quarterfinal matchup," said head coach Brad Frost. "Our team has been very consistent throughout the season and has earned our seed. We are looking forward to our game on Saturday."
After falling to the Buckeyes in the WCHA Final Faceoff title game, Minnesota is making its 19th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason. The 2022 WCHA regular season champion Gophers have won seven national championships, and Minnesota has only missed the NCAA tournament three times in its 22-year history.
Syracuse (CHA), Colgate (ECAC Hockey), Northeastern (Hockey East), and Ohio State (WCHA) earned the four automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments while Minnesota, Clarkson, Harvard, Quinnipiac, Minnesota Duluth, Wisconsin, and Yale earned at-large bids.

No. 1 seed Ohio State (29-6-0) hosts Quinnipiac (25-9-3) and Syracuse (15-10-6)
No. 2 seed Minnesota (29-8-1) hosts Minnesota Duluth (24-11-4) and Harvard (22-9-1)
No. 3 seed Northeastern (30-4-2) hosts Wisconsin (25-7-2) and Clarkson (22-11-3)
No. 4 seed Colgate (30-7-1) hosts No. 5 Yale (25-8-1)
Quarterfinal competition will take place on the campuses of the four host institutions with the winners advancing to the 2022 Women's Frozen Four on Friday, March 18 and Sunday, March 20 at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Penn.
